Marsh played a little defense in a few games last fall at Millard South, even as he started at quarterback. It marked his first defensive action since his freshman year, when he played running back, too, before moving into the starting QB position as a sophomore.
Marsh says
“I've been a Nebraska fan my whole life, so it means a lot to go there. You walk around there, and you can tell you're going somewhere that's the best.”
About Marsh
Despite shattering the career passing-yardage and total-offense records for 11-man, prep football in Nebraska, Marsh didn't truly emerge until last fall. He was named offensive captain of The World-Herald's All-Nebraska team after leading Millard South to a 13-0 record and a Class A championship. NU recruited Marsh with the understanding that he's likely to grayshirt, delaying his enrollment until January 2011. He'll get a look at quarterback, but Nebraska likes him as a safety, too.
Our take
The grayshirt's a good thing, unless Marsh convinces the Huskers to keep him at quarterback. Even then, it's OK, preserving a year of eligibility before he would fight for time in 2011. His attitude and hard-nosed style will go over well at Nebraska, which almost lost him to UNO by waiting until late January to offer a scholarship.
