Cameron says: "The people (at NU) were the best part. They're Midwestern people, real American people, hardworking."

Did you know?

Meredith played at one of the nation's most athletically prestigious high schools. Mater Dei's quarterback is Matt Barkley, Gatorade National Player of the Year as a junior. Matt Leinart and Colt Brennan also went to Mater Dei.

Coachspeak

Defensive linemen typically condition during practice with defensive linemen. Not Meredith, Mater Dei coach Bruce Rollinson said. He ran with the skill players. "God blessed him with speed and a motor," Rollinson said.

The gurus say

According to Scouts, Inc., Meredith "does a good job of using his hands to take on a blocker and create some separation. He needs to watch his pad level, but does not allow himself to get pushed off the ball much. He moves well laterally and displays the ability to stretch a play to the sideline."

About Meredith

A rare three-year starter at Mater Dei, he missed three games with a groin pull in 2007, but had 7.5 sacks and 92 tackles, compared to eight sacks and 60 tackles in 2006. A shy kid who makes a big play, smiles and walks back to the huddle. Passed on scholarship offers from Oklahoma, Oregon, Colorado and Arizona State, among others.

Our take

There's plenty of potential, but Meredith must add some weight to battle offensive tackles. He's got a big enough frame to get to 260 or 270 pounds. Give him two or three years and Meredith's athleticism should produce a solid player.
