The list of those going from CCSF to NU includes current quarterback Zac Lee and recent Husker players Maurice Purify and Cornealius Fuamatu-Thomas.
"I just loved the way they played. They played with a high intensity on every play." - Dejon Gomes, who attended the NU-Colorado game on Nov. 28
Gomes was named an All-Northern California Conference player as a sophomore and is listed as a three-star prospect by both Scout.com and Rivals. Capped his freshman season by being named defensive MVP of the California CC championship game.
Good size, plays physical and runs well (4.45-second range in the 40). Two-year starter at CCSF. Made four interceptions and broke up 14 passes last season, and also recovered two fumbles and forced two others. Gomes is from Oakland but played at Logan High in Union City, Calif., where he was a 1,000-yard rusher before going the JC route. Visited Houston after committing to Nebraska and also was considering Utah and Kansas.
Gomes follows in the recent steps of Armando Murillo, Andre Jones and Zack Bowman as junior college cornerbacks that Nebraska has sought for immediate help. Murillo did some good right away in 2007, but that was on a defense that collapsed. The Huskers signed four other corners, but Gomes has the advantage of enrolling last month and being ready for spring practice. Gomes has three years to play two but likely plays right away with NU losing Murillo.
