• Washington says: "I think (Nebraska) had a really good season this year," Washington told Rivals.com shortly after committing, "and I think it's only going to get better in the years to come."

• Did you know? The nickname for Leuzinger is the Olympians and Washington's nickname is "The Missile." "He runs through everything," Leuzinger coach Deon Toliver said. "He just attacks the ball viciously."

•Coachspeak: "He did a lot of blitzing for me, lowering the boom on a lot of people," Toliver said. "He's a pretty scary sight to see. You guys have fun watching him."

• The gurus say: Rivals.com lists him as a four-star prospect, one of five that the Huskers held commitments from heading into signing day. Listed as a safety, Toliver said he could see Washington getting to 215 pounds and sliding to an outside linebacker spot later in his Husker career.

• About Washington: Played the majority of his senior year as a run-stopper up from the safety spot. Would cover an extra receiver when teams went to 4- or 5-wide sets. Visited Lincoln in early October and committed to NU after an official trip to Washington State. He also held offers from the Cougars, Washington, Oregon State and San Diego State.

• Our take: Could he be an impact player in the secondary? Yes. Will it be next season? Probably not, but Washington provides depth at a position that the defensive coaches regularly refer to as the quarterback of the defense.
