Did you know?
The Mitchell family has football talent. Mario Mitchell, Joshua's father, played his college ball at San Diego State. Joshua's brother, Immanuel, is a redshirt freshman cornerback on the Colorado State roster.
Mitchell says
“This is where I want to be. I couldn't imagine myself playing for another school.”
About Mitchell
He played cornerback for Roosevelt, and he's being recruited to play the same position for NU. But the elusive speedster also returned kicks during his high school career, too. Maybe his most statistically productive game, Mitchell had two interceptions and returned a punt 53 yards for a touchdown during a 21-0 league win in October. He helped his team to a successful and nearly unprecedented season, too. A last-second field goal in the first round of the playoffs ended the year for Roosevelt (8-3), which hadn't won a game in the postseason tournament before.
Our take
Mitchell will likely redshirt this fall, seemingly his best course of action. He'll have a better shot at emerging if he spends a year studying the playbook and adjusting to all of the position's nuances. Young for his class, Mitchell also has some growing to do. He's listed at 160 pounds, though NU's strength program and his natural growth will eventually take care of that. Nebraska's created depth throughout its secondary and it seems that Mitchell will add to the stockpile of NU's tenacious speedsters — never a bad thing.
