•Did you know? Kerr actually didn't start attending Scripps Ranch until the spring of 2008. He had been playing in Fallbrook High School's Wing T offense, not getting too many opportunities to showcase his pass-catching abilities. Scripps Ranch, on the other hand, spent much of the 2008 season relying on its high profile quarterback, Tate Forcier, who's expected to sign with Michigan.
• Coachspeak: "He runs very well for a kid his size, and he's got great hands. He'll make the tough catches and he catches the ball like a receiver. He gave us a presence." - Scripps Ranch High School coach Sergio Diaz
• The gurus say: Kerr was the 62nd-best prospect on a Rivals.com preseason list of California's top 100 players. He's the No. 33 tight end nationally, according to Rivals.com and he's listed as the No. 35 tight end nationally by Scout.com.
• About Kerr: Kerr caught 21 passes for 294 yards, even though he spent much of his senior year battling with a banged up shoulder. He played in just five games. But when he was healthy, Kerr said he played all over the field, often lining up as if he were a wide receiver on the outside. He had scholarship offers from San Jose State and Arizona, but gave Nebraska an oral commitment in October.
• Our take: Nebraska has already found proven receivers at the tight end spot, Mike McNeill and Dreu Young, though the Huskers will need to begin grooming their replacements. The tight end plays an important role in Nebraska's offensive scheme, so Kerr should eventually get his opportunities.
