Did you know?
Moudy started for the United States in the Team USA Versus the World game last week in Fort Lauderdale, an event held in conjunction with the NFL’s Pro Bowl. The U.S. team won 17-0, and Moudy enjoyed the experience. “The entire defensive line we went against was already in college, so I learned about that different level of intensity.”
Coachspeak
“Mike started for us as a second tight end in the state championship game as a sophomore. We knew right there that he was going to be something special. And from that point on, he was a tremendous leader. Sometimes, a kid that good has a tendency to be lazy, but that was never the case with Mike. He sets a great example.” — Douglas County coach Jeff Ketron
About Moudy
How did Moudy end up as a Husker? His coach asked last year where he wanted to attend college. Moudy said Nebraska. So Ketron called NU recruiting coordinator Ted Gilmore, a former college teammate. The Huskers offered a scholarship. Moudy said yes. “It’s that simple,” Ketron said. “He loved them. They loved him. It was done. I asked him what I should do with all these letters and offers. He said, ‘Throw them away. I don’t want to see any of it.’ ”
Our take
An outdoorsy type who wears Wranglers and boots to school, Moudy will fit in well with offensive line coach Barney Cotton — but more for his no-nonsense attitude than for his fashion sense. He fits into a growing group of lunch-pail linemen at Nebraska. A redshirt looks likely next season.
