Private Calvin C. Irwin
Company I, 66th Ohio Infantry
Irwin was born on December 31, 1844. He enlisted and mustered in the regiment on May 1, 1862. Irwin was 17 years old at the time of his enlistment. Irwin served 5 months and was discharged on October 10, 1862 at Washington DC due to disability. Several reports indicate that Irwin was wounded which led to his discharge. The date and severity of the wound was not available.
Irwin died on June 22, 1940 at the age of the 95 years. He is buried in the Ainsworth Cemetery in Ainsworth (Brown County), Nebraska. At the time of his death, he was the last member of the Ainsworth Post (#171) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Ainsworth. In addition, he was a member of the Perryville Post (#231) in Litchfield and the Stowell Post (#302) in Peru, Nebraska.
