Private Evan Chandler
Company E, 98th Ohio Infantry
Chandler was born in Ohio on July 12, 1840. He enlisted in the regiment on August 2, 1862 and was mustered on August 20, 1862. Private Chandler was wounded on October 8, 1862 at the Battle of Perryville (KY). The Battle was the most costly engagement for the regiment during the War. Regimental casualties were 30 killed and 90 wounded. Chandler was discharged on January 15, 1863.
He died on May 17, 1933 at the age of 92 years. He is buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge (Furnas County), Nebraska. Chandler was a member of the Cambridge Post (#187) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Cambridge.
