Private Landy Walker
Company H, 151st Indiana Infantry
Walker was born in Kentucky in 1846. Two Civil War sources indicate that Walker was born on June 27, 1850. That date is probably not correct. Indiana enlistment records indicate that Walker was 18 years old when he enlisted in 1865. The 1910 census report reflects that he was born in 1846. Walker was living in Rensselaer (Jasper County), Indiana when he enlisted and mustered on February 17, 1865. Walker served 7 months with the regiment. He was mustered out on September 19, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.
The 151st Indiana Infantry was organized and mustered at Indianapolis on March 3, 1865. The regiment was sent to Tennessee and performed garrison duty until it was mustered out.
Walker died on January 12, 1937 at the age of 91 years. He is buried in the Highland Cemetery in Bertrand (Phelps County), Nebraska. At the time of his death, he was the last member of the McClellan Post (#213) of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) in Bertrand, Nebraska. In addition, he was a charter member and the last member of the Glover Post (#111) of the GAR in Holdrege, Nebraska.
