Davis was born in Oswego (Oswego County), New York on January 24, 1848. He enlisted in the regiment on August 30, 1864 at Schroeppel, New York. Davis was mustered on September 12, 1864 and went on serve 10 months. He was discharged on June 29, 1865 at City Point, Virginia.
The 184th New York Infantry was organized at Oswego, New York and mustered at Elmira, New York on September 12, 1864. The unit was assigned to duty in the Shenandoah Valley and fought at the Battle of Cedar Creek (VA) (October 19, 1864). The regiment lost 5 soldiers and 36 were wounded on the day of the battle. In addition, the regiment was assigned to duty against Petersburg and Richmond, Virginia from September 1864 to April 1865.
Davis died on November 4, 1939 at the age of 91 years. He is buried in the Soulville Cemetery in Sherman County, Nebraska.
