Private David Groff
Company G, 197th Ohio Infantry
Groff was born on March 1, 1847. He enlisted in the regiment on April 3, 1865 and was mustered on April 10, 1865. Groff served a little less than 4 months. He was discharged on July 31, 1865 at Baltimore, Maryland.
The 197th Ohio Infantry was organized and mustered at Camp Chase, Ohio on March 28, 1865. The regiment was assigned to various duties in Delaware and Maryland. The outfit performed guard duty on the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad.
Groff died on February 2, 1932 at the age of 84 years. He is buried in the Fairbury Cemetery in Fairbury (Jefferson County), Nebraska. Groff was a member of the Russell Post (#77) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Fairbury.
