White was born in Maine on May 2, 1840. He enlisted and mustered in the regiment on October 2, 1861. White served a little over 3 years and was discharged on October 10, 1864.
The 3rd Wisconsin Light Artillery was organized and mustered at Racine on October 10, 1861. During his enlistment, the unit was involved in several major battles and campaigns. Some of them include:
Siege of Corinth (MS) (April 29-May 30, 1862).
Battle of Perryville (KY) (October 8, 1862).
Battle of Stone’s River (TN) (December 30-31, 1862-January 1-3, 1863).
Battle of Chickamauga (GA) (September 19-20, 1863).
White died on February 5, 1932 at the age of 91 years. He is buried in the Ash Hollow Cemetery in Lewellen (Garden County), Nebraska.
