Woods was born July 27, 1845. He enlisted into the 133rd Ohio Infantry on May 2, 1864 and was mustered on May 6, 1864. Woods served until August 20, 1864. He was discharged at Camp Chase, Ohio.
He re-entered the Union Army as a member of 192nd Ohio Infantry on March 6, 1865. Woods enlisted as a sergeant and was mustered on March 9, 1865. He served about 6 months before he was discharged on September 1, 1865 at Winchester, Virginia.
Woods died on May 14, 1935 at the age of 89 years. He is buried in the Schuyler Cemetery in Schuyler (Colfax County), Nebraska. Woods was a member of the Sheridan Post (#34) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Schuyler.
