Private James Whitt
Company H, 13th Missouri Cavalry
Whitt was born in West Virginia on September 21, 1842. He enlisted in the regiment at Chillicothie, Missouri on September 1, 1864. Whitt was mustered on September 20, 1864 and served about 20 months. He was discharged on May 13, 1866.
The 13th Missouri Cavalry was organized at St Louis between September 1864 and February 1865. The unit was assigned to duties against Confederate General Sterling Price and was involved in several battles in Missouri. In addition, the regiment was assigned to the District of the Plains at the end of its’ term.
Whitt died on January 3, 1931 at the age of 88 years. He is buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion (Boone County), Nebraska. Whitt was a member of the following Nebraska Posts of the Grand Army of the Republic:
Carson Post (#42) in Albion, Nebraska.
Caddell Post (#74) in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska.
