Brock was born in Allegany County, New York on October 19, 1838. Brock served with 2 Wisconsin units during the Civil War. He was residing in Boscobel (Grant County), Wisconsin he enlisted and was mustered in the 33rd Wisconsin Infantry on August 14, 1862. Brock served 5 months before being discharged due to disability on January 15, 1863.
Brock re-enlisted and was mustered in the military as a member of the 47th Wisconsin Infantry on January 16, 1865. He served between 8 to 9 months with the units before being mustered out on September 4, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.
Brock died on June 30, 1929 at the age of 83 years. One Civil War source indicates that he died on June 6, 1929. He is buried in the Lerton Cemetery in Giltner (Hamilton County), Nebraska. He was the last member of the Giltner Post (#71) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Giltner.
