Private Stephen V Brewer

Brewer was born on August 10, 1848. He was residing in Graysville (Sullivan County), Indiana when he enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on October 13, 1864. He served about 11 months and was mustered out on September 19, 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Brewer joined the regiment during the Nashville Campaign of November-December 1864. The unit fought at the Battle of Franklin (November 30, 1864) and the Battle of Nashville (December 15-16, 1864). The regiment was sent to Fort Riley, Kansas during the summer of 1865. It was assigned to duty along the Sante Fe Trail until September 1865.
Brewer died on November 1, 1889 at the age of 41 years. He is buried in the Gordon Cemetery in Gordon (Sheridan County), Nebraska. The Brewer Post (#323) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Gordon is named for Brewer.
