Private George W Putnam
Company E, 58th Ohio Infantry
Putnam was born in 1848. He enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on March 6 1865. Putnam was either 16 or 17 years old at the time of his enlistment. He served about 6 months and was mustered out on September 16, 1865 at Vicksburg, Mississippi. During his tour of duty, the 58th Ohio Infantry was stationed at Vicksburg and was assigned to provost duty.
Putnam died on November 1, 1916. He is buried in the Riverview Cemetery in Hordville (Hamilton County), Nebraska. The Putnam Post (#142) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Marquette, Nebraska was named for him.
