Kimball was born on August 13, 1842. He enlisted in the regiment on August 17, 1864 at Champion, New York. He was mustered in on September 10, 1864 and served about 9 months. He was mustered out on June 5, 1865 at Washington DC.
Company H was organized and mustered at Sackett’s Harbor, New York on September 10, 1864. The regiment was assigned to the Siege of Petersburg (VA) from October 1, 1864 to April 2, 1865. On the final day of the Siege, the outfit suffered heavy casualties. Twenty seven (27) soldiers were killed, 47 were wounded, 4 were captured, and 1 was reported missing.
Kimball died on August 20, 1911 at the age of 69 years. He is buried in the Newport Cemetery in Newport (Rock County), Nebraska. He was one of the last members of the Newport Post (#229) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Newport.
