Private Marshall Decamp
Company L, 7th Iowa Cavalry
Decamp was born in Iowa on June 20, 1848. He was living in Dubuque County, Iowa when the 16 year old enlisted in the regiment on March 7, 1865. He was mustered on March 16, 1865 and served about 13 months. He was mustered out on April 18, 1866 at Sioux City.
The 7th Iowa Cavalry was assigned to the Dakota and Nebraska Territories during the Civil War. Their primary duties included guarding telegraph lines and escorting trains and emigrants.
Decamp died on July 10, 1925 at the age of 77 years. He is buried in the Clearwater Cemetery in Clearwater (Antelope County), Nebraska. Decamp was a member of the Clearwater Post (#222) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Clearwater.
