Keithly was born March 24, 1845. Some Civil War sources spell his last name “Keithley”. He was residing in Blandinsville (McDonough County), Illinois when he enlisted for 3 years on November 5, 1863. He was mustered on December 31, 1863 and served for 23 months. He was mustered out November 22, 1865 at San Antonio, Texas.
Keithly joined the regiment in the final stages of the Civil War and saw duty in several southern states.
He died on April 29, 1944 at the age of 99 years. He is buried in the Blue Mound Cemetery in Milford (Seward County), Nebraska. At the time of his death, he was the last member of the Hurlburt Post (#280) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Madrid, Nebraska.
